Le Bison

FR-68. Le Bison (The Buffalo) is a nice arch rock located on the side of Gorge des Combasses in Cirque de Mourèze in Hérault department of France. It was named by Gaston Combarnous, author of the book Les Pierres qui Parlent (The Speaking Stones). He has named and catalogued many features in this area. The opening has an estimated span of 2 meters. The opening is eroded through Dolomie limestone. The name of Dolomie formation was given in remenbrance of the french geologist Déodat Gratet De Dolomieu born in Dolomieu, Isère department of France (1750-1801).
