Les Arches de La Beaume (30 arches)

These natural arches are located on Gorges de La Beaume (also called La Baume) between the town of Rosières and the hamlet of Peyroche in Ardèche department of France. The charming old caracter village of Labeaume is located on the heart of the Gorges served by the road D245 at his terminus. The upper and lower valley of La Beaume River shows beautiful sculptural cliffs of limestone and some secluded karstic labyrinth of Pinnacles and natural arches. The Gorges de La Beaume shelters also : L'Arche de Lunel, L'Arche de Labeaume, Grottes du Platane, Grottes de Peyroche, L'Arche de Bizac, L'Arche de Chavetourtre and Grotte de Chavetourtre all of them situated on west rim.




This natural arch is located on the cliffs of Lunel and overhangs La Baume River. The opening has a measured height of 5.0 meters.

                       

The next following natural arches can be found on the rim of Gorges de La Beaume into an attractive karstic maze of limestone including deep breaks and pinnacles on the side of the sheer cliff.

       Some secluded natural arches located directly above the sheer cliff overhanging La Beaume River.

                       

                       

                       





On these karstic formations, depht crevices occurs through limestone rocks specially when rock face directly overhanging the river. Two interesting formation among many others of less importance are below.

                      

                      


Some natural arches can be found on the side of La Beaume River at the base of the cliffs near the hamlet of Lunel.






The next group of seven natural arches are located around the charming old village of Labeaume, nestling along La Beaume river at the foot of steep limestone cliffs. It is one of the most picturesque village of Ardèche recognized village of caracter -a classification of the most beautiful old village of France.
         







The right grotto (below the socket on the rock) have a nice pillar arch at his entrance as can be seen on the close view. For now, the author do n't know if the two grottos are connected together.

                         




In the traditional style of fine stone façade and dry stone wall of Ardèche region, this natural arch was walled in the past. The opening is situated on the heart of the village of Labeaume between two privates houses. Basically, the 'naked' opening can be several meters of height.
